This was my FIRST EVER full hour radio documentary for The Naked Scientists that aired on BBC 5 Live, ABC's Radio National in Australia, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and went out as a TNS podcast.
Last year, Stephen Hawking made a rather shocking prediction... We have 100 years to colonise another planet, stating that "we are running out of space on Earth and we need to break through the technological limitations preventing us living elsewhere in the universe". This got me thinking, what would that actually involve and would general folks like us be allowed to go?
Throughout the show, I spoke to leading scientists about our possible options for another home (spoiler: it's very limited), how we might get there (spoiler: technology needs to get a move on) and what our bodies go through to tolerate life in space. Plus, I had a go at my own astronaut training. Final spoiler: I felt very sick afterwards.
